Jim Maltbie loves cars.
Inspired by his father, Raymond, himself a manager of an auto body shop, Jim was only 12 years old when he began working on cars. In 1962, at only 19, Jim opened his first shop: Jim’s Auto Body, Inc., in Port Chicago, California. Six months later Jim’s Auto Body moved to Concord, California. Managed by Darren, Jim's oldest son, it quickly expanded into one of the most reputable and trendsetting body shops in The San Francisco Bay Area.
Success Breeds Success
With the demand for auto body work in Contra Costa County increasing in the 70s and 80s, Jim opened his second shop in 1986. Managed by his son, James, the new location brought collision repair experience and great customer service to Antioch. In 1992, Jim opened a third shop in Walnut Creek, California. Sandy Mederios, manages that location.
Claims and Paperwork
It used to be that a policyholder was required to report auto damage directly to his or her insurance company. Then the policyholder was required to obtain several estimates from which the insurance company would determine where the repairs would be done. Things have certainly changed since 1962 when the insurance company processed most of the paperwork.
Today the insurance company recommends to the policyholder a number of local businesses from which to choose. It is critical for the body shop to have a record of excellent quality and service. Now it’s the shop that must provide the insurance company with a computerized estimate, document the damage via videotape, process much of the paperwork and electronically forward it all to the insurance company so that the invoice can be paid.
Jim’s Auto Body tackles this administrative role with the same energy and commitment to customer service as all the repair work we do.
